                    THE REAL RAJASTHAN
THE REAL RAJASTHAN ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Arrive in Delhi, India.

Days 2-3 - Fly to Udaipur,
a city of lakes and known as the “Venice of the East.” Enjoy a comprehensive tour of the town, including the City Palace and Museum.

Days 4-5 - Drive to Siana,
a traditional area of Rajasthan rarely visited by tourists. Morning and evening game drives to track leopards with the local chief and visit untouched villages.

Day 6 - Camel trek among the lands of the Bishnoi desert tribe,
a rare opportunity to get a taste of the traditional rural life of Rajasthan.

Day 7 - Drive to Jodhpur,
where you’ll tour the bustling bazaar, Meherangarh Fort, and the Moti Mahal (“pearl palace”).

Days 8-9 - Drive to Pushkar for the Pushkar Fair (November departure),
a colorful and festive annual gathering of desert tribes eager to buy and sell livestock (including some 50,000 camels and cattle!). Layover day to enjoy the fair. (In February we visit the Nagaur Fair, with a livestock market as impressive as Pushkar’s.)

Days 10-11 - Drive to Jaipur,
a showcase for Rajasthan’s distinctive architecture. Explore the Hawa Mahal (“Palace of the Winds”) and other sights, including the magnificent Amber Palace.

Day 12 - Drive to Agra to see the incomparable Taj Mahal.
En route you’ll stop at Fatehpur Sikri, a red sandstone Moghul “ghost town” of elaborate, perfectly preserved royal audience halls, palaces, and mosques. You’ll also visit the famous Agra Fort, built by the Emperor Akbar. Its maze of courtyards, mosques, and private chambers tell the story of the Moghul Empire.

Day 13 - Return to Delhi and depart.

(Note—Itinerary varies slightly for each departure, based on fair.)

Rajasthan is still the dream India of your imagination. Once a collection of 18 independent princely states, including some of the oldest monarchies in India (and the world), Rajasthan’s royal legacy lives grandly on in its elaborate palaces, lavish mansions, and medieval fortresses. As you explore traditional golden-hued desert strongholds like Jodhpur and Jaipur, you’ll feel transported back in time to a romantic, turbulent era of turbaned warrior-princes, martial valor, and cloistered harems. And in princely style, some of your accommodations are maharajas’ palaces now converted into amazing hotels! But the best part of our trip is the unique opportunity to visit off-the-beaten-track Siana, where you’ll track leopards with the locals and ride camels across the uncharted desert, collecting memories to last a lifetime. As if that weren’t enough, you’ll attend an ancient and colorful annual desert fair, visit the exquisite “ghost town” of Fatehpur Sikri, and end your dreamlike journey with a visit to the dazzling Taj Mahal.
