Day 1: Hola San José
Meet your Culturious representative at the airport for a transfer to Hôtel Le Bergerac. History calls on a guided afternoon walking tour through colonial San José. Go for Baroque at the Teatro Nacional and go for the gold at the Museo del Oro, where all that glitters is indeed gold. It’s fiesta time tonight at our welcome dinner!

Day 2: Mangroves, Macaws, Marimbas & More
Head west from San José through villages, sugar cane fields and plantations to the Guacalillo Estuary, whose mangrove forests are home to an array of birds including the cuckoo, vireo, flycatcher, heron, egret, hummingbird and especially the Scarlet Macaw. This endangered bird’s conservation is key in the particular forest you’ll explore on a guided cruise through the mangroves. Keep your eyes open for ospreys, cormorants, crocodiles, iguanas and other species as you explore the mouth of the Tárcoles River. After a typical Costa Rican lunch complete with marimba music, cross the Gulf of Nicoya by boat to your Pacific Ocean resort in Tambor... tempting with beachcombing, a taste of guaro and a lesson in conversational Spanish.

Day 3: Zip-lining in the Canopy
Nature is exhilarating... and so is today’s zip-line ride across the jungle canopy, where eleven platforms high in the treetops offer thrilling views of the Montezuma River below as you zip along nine connecting cables. Cool off in a waterfall, have lunch on your own in a funky beach town, take a siesta or head to the spa... then, we’re partying tonight! Kick off your shoes for cocktails on the beach, a private dinner and local entertainment for Culturious compas only!

Day 4: A Kayak Adventure & A Cooking Class
Early risers catch the best birds here, so if you’re game, join us for bird watching this morning before breakfast. Then it’s off for a kayaking trip along the calm waters of the Curu Reserve for firsthand discoveries of the mangrove estuaries and a lunch of traditional Costa Rican fare. Local specialties are on the menu in an afternoon cooking class; join us for the fun and food!

Day 5: Miraculous Cartago & Volcanic Irazú
Fly back to San José en route to Turrialba. Make a pilgrimage to Cartago this morning, home to the Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles; inside is a shrine to the tiny carved figure of La Negrita, who is believed to have miraculous healing powers. Next up is a hike on the lunar landscapes of nearby Irazú Volcano. Wait until you see the views from here! Your three-night retreat at idyllic Casa Turire is tranquility perfected!

Day 6: Horseback Riding & A Hacienda Tour
Saddle up for a trail ride as your horse leads the way through a 200-acre hacienda. Pray for clear weather so you can enjoy postcard-perfect views of Angostura Lake, Turrialba and Irazú Volcano and smile as you pose with a Scarlet and Great Green Macaw at a wildlife rehabilitation center! Learn about the agricultural techniques of a working sugar cane and macadamia nut ranch before spending the evening as you wish.

Day 7: Whitewater Rafting & A Farewell Fiesta
Challenge your boundaries today on a 3-hour whitewater rafting adventure on the Pacure River! Be as active – or not – as you wish this afternoon; after all, this is your dream vacation! In your free time, how about exploring the lake by canoe, bike or kayak? It’s a great way to spend your last afternoon in Costa Rica! Our farewell festivities tonight are at a nearby hacienda, inviting with good food, good drink and good friends... mucho gusto!

Day 8: Pura Vida, Costa Rica
Tour ends: San José. A transfer from Casa Turire to the airport is included for your return flight home and you can fly home anytime today. Allow a minimum of three hours for flight check-in.
